Basket Ring Gear Welding Cell
Parker Helac, a division of Parker Hannifin, was looking for a robotic welding solution to replace an outdated machine. They needed consistent, quality welds for their components for industrial machinery, which for this project consisted of welding a ring gear inside of a cylindrical “basket”.
The client’s old machine had part fixturing that was slow and required power tools to set up every weld, and had to be set up with different change-out parts for each size basket and ring gear that were to be welded together.
We designed a completely toolless solution that required no change-out parts, and allowed for increased throughput, weld tunability, and weld quality.
The robotic welding system consists of a Fanuc Arc Mate 100iD/12 Robot with a mounted Lincoln Electric Magnum Pro Weld Torch and Autodrive 4R220 Wire Feeder. The system also consists of three fixturing stations, fume extraction, and a utility blow-off gun.
The system is capable of welding ring gears into 3 different size baskets, each in the corresponding fixturing station.
